On Friday, October 25th at 7PM, Paragraph Members Laura Hemphill, Melvin Estrella and Kurt Pitzer shared their work at Paragraph’s KGB Member Reading Series!
Laura Hemphill‘s first novel, BUYING IN, will be published in November by New Harvest. Her writing has appeared in Bloomberg Businessweek and NewYorker.com
Kurt Pitzer is a former commercial fisherman, relief worker and correspondent for the Boston Globe, the Los Angeles Times, Mother Jones and other print media. He is the author of the non-fiction books Eating with the Enemy, which The New York Times called a “boisterous, improbable book,” and The Bomb in My Garden, of which James Fallows wrote in The Atlantic Monthly, “You start reading, and you don’t want to stop.” He is the producer of the upcoming feature film “Cantuckee” and is working on a memoir about an unsolved murder on the Thai-Burmese border.
Melvin Estrella has worked within the independent film arena as well as commercials, television, and non-profit production. Clients have included ESPN (It’s the Shoes), Filmlance Sweden (The Last Contract), 3rd Edge Communications, Hock Films, House Films, Make a Wish, and TV-One. Melvin shot and produced the documentaries,The Dodgers Sym-Phony and the recently completed GringoTrails.He is director of photography on the documentary-in-progressWall Street in the Black. His short film Firebird premiered in the New York Indian Film Festival. Melvin is a former board member for The Moth, now serving on its curatorial committee. He is currently completing his first children’sbook, Earthquake Alley.
