Perfect for all genres, this course focuses on essential (though seldom taught) skills for composing. Each week, we practice a particular skill on the spot, and there are follow-up practice sheets to help you assimilate and train in it.

People have used Actually Writing to come back home to their writing, maintain a healthy rhythm, or generate a volume of pages. Many have used this course as “basic training”—giving themselves an MFA in composing, for a fraction of the cost of a conventional MFA.

Diana Goetsch is the author of eight collections of poems, dozens of nonfiction features and columns, and the memoir This Body I Wore, which The New York Times Book Review called “achingly beautiful.” Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, Poetry, Gettysburg Review, The American Scholar, the L.A.
